I have been fascinated with chainsaw carvings from childhood. After moving to Sugar Grove in 2017, I decided to try to carve a Bear! It actually turned out decent, so I started trying to make other things here and there and then in 2019 started selling some at the end of our driveway. When Covid hit, we put chainsaw carvings on the back burner.
Fast-forward to summer of 2023: I always wanted to start a YouTube channel about something, but I didn’t know what and then it hit me. Why not start a YouTube channel about my journey to learn how to chainsaw carve? So that’s what I did, and in September 2023 I started the YouTube channel called “Bear and the Boss Lady” because I thought it sounded funny. Anyway, from there, I pressed on watching what others created with the chainsaw and trying to learn to do it myself.
In September 2024, we got the opportunity to be in the “Backwoods Fest” selling our chainsaw art and simultaneously became qualified to apply for monetization in YouTube. From there, I realized that this was a serious artistic business I could pursue.
Fast-forward to 2026: We create all kinds of different styles of chainsaw art for locals and tourists to the Hocking Hills region of Ohio.
We have been officially chainsaw and rotary carving for three years. I have learned this craft by watching others and trying to create things in my own style. We mainly carve artistic versions of animals and other items found in nature. We also carve whimsical items such as gnomes and Bigfoot.
