HHACA February 6th Meeting Minutes

Speaker: Todd Tucker General Manager Hocking Hills Lodge

Wants to encourage Local artisans to contact him. Looking to purchase wholesale items for the gift shop. There is not a lot of space, but items that would fit in their display cases or on shelves are desired.

They would also like to set up artists to come demonstrate their craft, or provide activities that kids would find interesting. Saturdays and Sundays are ideal. Artists would be able to make direct sales of their work while they demonstrate, and at this point no commission would be required.
They would also like a directory of local artists to distribute to visitors.

They will have to check their current schedule, but they would like to host our fall show on September 23rd and 24th.
Dave will email his contact information out to members.

Meeting called to order at 6:35 18 members present

Treasurers report-Patty reported on our finances. Those on our email list can get the specifics.

Motion to accept treasurer’s report Diane Fickel, 2nd Kay Wilson

Secretaries Report – last minutes would have been for November. Dave will look to see if he has them and Sue will check the files from Jane.

Library Room – there was a conflict with the Library room. Someone signed another group up for our meeting time. Mary Leffler worked hard to get our spot back for us. The group agreed to send her a $25 gift card for her efforts.

Suzanne from Member Services would like all new members to reach out to her about doing a presentation at one of our meetings. You can show your work or demonstrate something. Suzanne Hiser can be reached at 740-596-4094 or emailed at smurpheyhiser@gmail.com

We need more members to present, to encourage our members to attend meetings.

Dave will check with Bill Boone from the Wash Board Factory/Festival about coming to talk to us in March about a washboard collaboration.

Other topic ideas were Venues to display work for Sale. Accounting for Small Business. Logan Town Center, and/or Karen Raymore from HH Tourism about ways to increase exposure to grow the group. Hungry Buffalo was mentioned as a possible display place.

Seeing if we could display in the Entry of the Theater during downtown events was also mentioned.

Library display case – Items were removed and we don’t know where some of them have gotten to. Jane checked and was told an older lady picked them up. Dave will check with the library to see if we can get more information about where they have been put. People need to sign up to fill the case. Since no one volunteered for February, Dave will fill the case. Contact Dave to get on the schedule, several months are still open.

Show Information Nick – We had $1330 in expenses, $800 grant for advertising, $980 in booth fees gave us $450 in profit from the show. The school only charged us $70 in custodial fees since he did not need to stay there all day. Jane motioned to donate $100 to the school, earmarked for art supplies, Suzanne seconded. Motion passed.

Reminder that 2023 dues are due. Dues are $30. A $5 late fee will be charged after April 1st.

Checks can be mailed to Hocking Hills Artists and Craftsmen, P.O. Box 341, Logan , OH 43138

Homegrown has been busy, and had good crowds and lots of sales during the Ice Festival. Books have also been selling well from that venue.

There is a possibility that the Bowen house will have an opening for an August show. This would overlap their outdoor vendor show which could increase sales from the inside show. The Bowen house takes a 10% commission from sales. The majority seemed interested in doing this, so Sue will follow up with Jenny to see if it is available.

Website. Reminder that all members can put a short bio and up to 10 images of their work on our website. Members who already have work on the site are encouraged to send updates as well. Send your work to Sue at suefinch@suefinch.com

The website URL expires in May. Roy motioned to renew it for three years (approximate cost $60). Nancy seconded. Motion passed.

Diane has a lot of Yvonne’s paintings and asked for ideas of places where she could sell them and donate the proceeds. The new Children’s museum was mentioned as a potential benefactor. A raffle at the fall show, a booth at the Fall show, or at the Bowen House were mentioned as possible other venues.

We then sang Happy Birthday to Jane, and Adjourned the meeting.
